Large-Flower Sonerila is a herb up to 30 cm tall, with
stem minutely striped, reddish, woody below. Leaves are up to 4 x 2.2
cm, elliptic, pointed at tip; narrowed at base; sharply saw-toothed,
5-6 nerved from the base. Leaf-stalks are 1-2 cm long, reddish.
Flower-cluster-stalks are 3 cm long, 3-5-flowered. Flowers are 2.5 cm
across, carried on stalks 1 cm long. Petals are 1.3 x 1 cm, obovate,
pointed, pink; anthers 6 mm long, bottle-shaped, tapering; sepals
triangular, with a black gland at tip. Capsules are 1 cm long, obovoid.
Large-Flower Sonerila is found in Western Ghats. Flowering:
November-December.
